While most of us in the U.S. were sleeping in our beds at 5 a.m. this morning, Prince William and Kate Middleton were getting hitched over in the U.K. Of course, the Internet was pretty much taken over with Royal Wedding news. Even Google paid tribute to the wedding with a special Google Doodle. But that’s not all, Google changed the icon of its Street View man to that of the bride and groom.
Google is known for creating its doodles for special events, birthdays, and dates in history. Our most recent Googles honored John James Audubon’s 226th birthday, Earth Day, and Charlie Chaplin‘s 122nd birthday, and that was only since the 15th of April..
In the case of the Royal Wedding doodle, the word “Google” is replaced by a horse-drawn carriage carrying the prince and the new princess in the streets of London. It also shows Westminster Abbey, where the couple got married, a magical-looking castles, and the London Eye in the background. A crowd watches as the couple passes by with red, white, and blue confetti in the air.
As for the Street View change, as you can see below, the normal single Street View man is now dressed in a tux and joined by his bride. It’s almost a shame that after tomorrow the couple will be transformed back into the original Street View man. Perhaps Google will make a way for us to choose our desired Street View character in the future?
